The bending test is conducted on Q235B and 34B steel plate coils, employing both three-point and four-point bending configurations. The cross-sections of the coil‑rolled specimens are either circular or rectangular, with a span typically equal to ten times the diameter. For brittle materials, the bending test usually results in only limited plastic deformation before fracture; for ductile materials, the flexural fracture strength cannot be directly measured, but their ductility and uniformity can be assessed. In the case of plastic materials, the bending test is referred to as a cold‑bend test.
During testing, the specimen is loaded and bent to a specified degree, and the surface of the steel‑plate‑rolled‑tube sample is inspected for cracks. For bending tests, the diameter of the bending mandrel shall be four times the nominal wall thickness of the steel tube, and the bending angle shall be 180°. After the bending test, no cracks or delamination shall be present on the specimen, nor shall any microcracks at the edges be detected. Boiler and superheater tubes with an outer diameter of 18–146 mm and an inner diameter greater than 15 mm shall, as required, undergo flaring or edge‑testing.
