The quality of steel plate spiral-welded pipes is significantly influenced by weld‑seam dimensions, which are determined by a combination of factors, including welding process parameters, the shape and positioning of the welding wire, flux flow rate, flux performance, and the geometry of the welded seam.
Steel plate rolled pipe The quality is significantly influenced by weld bead dimensions and is determined by a combination of factors, including welding process parameters, wire geometry and positioning parameters, flux flow rate, flux characteristics, and the resulting weld appearance.
Among these, the influence of welding process parameters mainly encompasses two aspects:
(1) Based on the production characteristics of spiral welded pipes, internal welding typically employs a lower welding current, whereas external welding generally uses a higher welding current. However, under conditions of higher welding current, the stirring effect in the weld pool is enhanced, leading to an increased melt‑in of the filler wire. This results in a greater residual weld height, poorer weld appearance, and inadequate edge transition.
(2) Since the welding arc is conical, the welding voltage directly affects the arc length. Consequently, as the welding voltage increases, the arc length grows, the range of arc‑spot movement expands, and the weld pool widens, resulting in a broader weld bead profile. When welding in the horizontal position, only the weld width is altered, with no impact on the edge transition; however, in spiral‑welded pipe external welding, the molten weld metal flows laterally under gravity due to the sloped joint. Therefore, the higher the welding voltage, the wider the weld pool and the more pronounced the lateral flow of weld metal, ultimately leading to localized metal migration within the weld.
Guangxi Nanning Canghai Steel Co., Ltd. specializes in straight-seam welded pipes, steel plate‑rolled pipes, large‑diameter steel pipes, spiral pipes, spiral‑welded pipes, straight‑seam pipes, spiral steel pipes, and steel casing pipes.
