Spiral pipe manufacturers emphasize that spiral steel pipes should be protected from abrasion during use, and their packaging must prevent loosening and damage throughout normal handling, transportation, and storage. Therefore, measures to prevent wear are of great importance, and we must employ the proper methods to avoid it. So, how can we minimize wear when using spiral steel pipes? Here’s an overview from the spiral pipe manufacturer.
Spiral pipe manufacturer It is important to prevent wear during the use of spiral steel pipes, and their packaging should be protected against loosening and damage throughout normal handling, transportation, and storage. Therefore, measures to guard against wear are crucial, and we must employ appropriate methods to minimize it. So, how can we avoid wear when using spiral steel pipes? Here’s an overview from a leading manufacturer.
In certain cases, the buyer may have specific requirements regarding the packaging materials and methods for spiral welded steel pipes; such requirements shall be specified in the enterprise’s procurement contract. If no such specifications are provided, the manufacturer shall determine the packaging materials and methods, which must comply with China’s relevant laws and regulations. Where packaging is not required, the manufactured steel pipes shall meet the intended application of the relevant enterprise, thereby avoiding material waste and significant environmental pollution.
Spiral pipe manufacturers note that if customers require spiral steel pipes to be free of even minor defects—such as external bulging—various protective measures can be employed, including rubber, straw rope, fiber cloth, plastic, and pipe caps. For thin-walled spiral steel pipes, internal technical supports or external pipe‑rack protection may be used. The materials for these supports and frames should match those of the spiral steel pipe itself.
Spiral steel pipes should be protected from abrasion during loading and transportation. First, inspect the pipe’s quality before loading; there are standardized specifications that must be met, ensuring that the pipe’s length, wall thickness, and material comply with the relevant construction requirements. Second, consider the load to prevent damage to the pipe’s diameter when using cranes or hoists during handling. Third, for corrosion protection or thermal insulation, verify that both the outer surface and inner wall are dry to avoid incomplete drying of the coating. Fourth, select an appropriately sized vehicle based on the pipe’s length to minimize potential issues during transport. Fifth, after loading onto the vessel, secure the pipes firmly to prevent friction or slippage during transit, which could lead to unnecessary wear. In practical transportation, spiral steel pipes should adhere to these precautions.
According to quality inspection and analysis, spiral steel pipes can be classified into three categories: qualified products, reworkable products, and scrap. Qualified products are those whose appearance and internal quality control meet the relevant national standards or the technical requirements for delivery and acceptance. Reworkable products are those whose external appearance and internal quality do not fully comply with China’s acceptance criteria but are eligible for repair and can subsequently meet design specifications and acceptance conditions. Scrap refers to spiral steel pipes whose appearance and internal quality fail to meet the applicable standards and which, even after repair or remediation, still do not satisfy the required standards and acceptance criteria.
The pressure test for spiral welded steel pipes is more sensitive than the hydrostatic test; the test specimen must be drained, and appropriate technical measures should be observed during the test.
Many small and medium-sized enterprises, when purchasing spiral welded steel pipes, lack technical personnel and specialized testing equipment, so they can only assess the pipe’s quality by visual inspection, making it difficult to determine whether it meets standards. So, what methods can be used to evaluate the quality of spiral welded steel pipes? Spiral pipe manufacturers recommend several commonly used approaches for assessing pipe quality.
1. The quality of the manufacturing process for spiral pipes can be judged by examining their surface. Typically, it is necessary to analyze the cross-section of spiral steel; a counterfeit spiral pipe will have an elliptical cross‑section. This is because manufacturers cut corners on raw materials, reducing the thickness of the first two coils at the beginning of production, which significantly lowers the pipe’s compressive strength and renders it non‑compliant with the specifications for spiral steel products.
High-quality spiral pipe parts are symmetrical, feature a high cold‑shearing capacity, and have smooth, neat inner holes in the cutting head. However, due to the poor quality of counterfeit or substandard materials, frequent use of the cutting process can result in uneven surfaces and a lack of metallic texture.
2. If the sound is crisp and the echoes are clear and distinct, it indicates that the spiral tube was manufactured using new materials and advanced processes, rather than being a product of the comprehensive recycling and repurposing of scrap spiral steel pipes.
3. Shape inspection of the butt welds in spiral pipes is a simple yet widely applicable testing method. It constitutes an essential part of finished-product quality control. The key lies in identifying defects and dimensional deviations on the welded surfaces of the spiral pipe. Typically, this is performed visually, with the aid of specialized tools such as gauges, instruments, and high‑magnification magnifiers. If defects are present on the weld surface, they will also be found within the weld’s interior.
