Spiral pipe manufacturers explain that spiral pipes, also known as spiral steel pipes or spiral welded pipes, are produced by winding low-carbon structural steel or low-alloy structural steel strips into a tubular blank at a specific helical angle—referred to as the forming angle—and then welding the seam. This process enables the production of large-diameter steel pipes from relatively narrow steel strips. Below is an overview of relevant knowledge about spiral pipes for your reference.

Spiral pipe manufacturer Spiral pipes, also known as spiral steel pipes or spiral welded pipes, are manufactured by rolling low-carbon structural steel or low-alloy structural steel strips into a tubular blank at a specific helical angle—referred to as the forming angle—and then welding the seam. This process enables the production of large-diameter steel pipes from relatively narrow steel strips. The following provides an overview of key information about spiral pipes for your reference.

  1. When purchasing strip steel, the first thing to consider is whether it comes from a well-known domestic steel mill. Strip steel produced by large-scale mills is generally of assured quality, although it tends to be more expensive than that from smaller mills. Nowadays, some spiral welded pipe manufacturers, in an effort to cut costs, use strip steel from smaller mills, which cannot guarantee either structural integrity or consistent quality.

  2. The material composition of strip steel is a common source of issues. National standards clearly specify the allowable levels of various elements in different grades of strip steel. First, when purchasing strip steel, the material composition cannot be determined by visual inspection; it must be verified against the material certificate provided by the steel mill. However, it is unlawful to simply accept the mill’s material certificate as matching the actual product being purchased. Therefore, we must select a representative sample of the strip steel for testing. Spiral pipe manufacturers stipulate specific requirements for sampling: three specimens should be taken from distinct locations, each measuring 40 mm in width and 80 mm in length. After the test results are obtained, they must be cross‑checked against the material certificate issued by the steel mill.

  3. Inspect the strip steel for burrs, pitting, dents, and edge breaks. At Daqiu Zhuang, coiled strips are ordered from the warehouse in large packages—visible on the outside but hidden inside. In fact, it is sufficient to examine only the exposed outer surface and the transverse surface, as the production process of the outer strip steel is well‑established. If there are no defects on the exterior, the interior is generally free of issues. Furthermore, during the manufacturing of spiral welded pipes, after the strip steel has been straightened and leveled by a leveling machine, its appearance must be monitored continuously. If any problems are detected, promptly stop the line and perform repair welding.

Also, what are the stacking requirements for spiral steel pipes?

The principle for stacking spiral steel pipes is to ensure stable, secure storage while organizing materials by type and specification; different grades of material should be stored separately to prevent contamination from mud and mutual corrosion.

The spiral pipe manufacturer advises that open‑air angle steel and channel steel should be laid on their sides, with the flanges facing downward, while I‑beams should be stored upright. The groove of an I‑beam must not face upward to prevent rusting. Materials of the same type should be stacked in accordance with the order of receipt. The bases of spiral steel pipe piles must be elevated, compacted, and leveled to protect the materials from moisture and deformation. For manual stacking, the height should not exceed 1.2 m; for mechanical handling, it should not exceed 1.5 m. The stacking width must not exceed 2.5 m.
