The groove of corrosion‑resistant spiral steel pipes is a critical component during fabrication, installation, and welding; conforming to the specified standards ensures greater efficiency in subsequent construction, installation, and welding operations. The most common type of groove for corrosion‑resistant spiral steel pipes is the V‑groove. So, what exactly is a V‑groove?
A V‑groove refers to a groove whose cross‑sectional geometry is V‑shaped, formed when two corrosion‑resistant spiral steel pipes are butted together. The bevel angle of the groove for such pipes is typically 30°–35°. Moreover, the groove does not consist of a single sloping surface; it also features a root face at the inner end.
The root face of corrosion‑resistant spiral welded pipe shall be 1.6 mm ± 0.8 mm. The commonly used tool for inspecting and measuring the groove angle and root face of such pipes is the weld inspection ruler, also known as an angle gauge. It is a specialized measuring instrument used to determine the groove angle, weld bead width and height, and interpass gap of welded joints.
The bevel of anti-corrosion spiral steel pipe shall have a smooth surface, free of burrs and edge curling defects. Any bevel that fails to meet the specified standards must be reworked by straightening and chamfering; the use of an angle grinder for grinding is prohibited. For each shift, the first piece must be measured and documented, and measurements must also be taken after changing the cutter head or adjusting the equipment on the straightening machine.
