First, let’s define what a bent pipe is:

  Bending pipes is performed using a complete set of bending dies. Regardless of the type of machinery, pipe bending is widely employed, primarily for conveying oil, gas, and liquids, and it plays an especially critical role in aircraft and their engines.

  In fact, pipe benders can bend profiles with various cross-sectional shapes.

 

  Almost all metal profiles and tubular products—such as aluminum, steel, stainless steel, and copper—can be bent. Pipe bending delivers excellent quality, and materials that have undergone processes like spraying, electroplating, polishing, or wire drawing can be bent directly without damaging their surfaces.

  

Material of the reducing elbow:

  Materials include cast iron, stainless steel, alloy steel, malleable cast iron, carbon steel, nonferrous metals, and plastics.

  Connection to piping: direct welding (the most common method), flanged connections, hot-melt connections, threaded connections, socket‑and‑spigot connections, etc.

  According to the manufacturing process, they are classified as welded elbows, stamped elbows, cast elbows, and so on.

  Elbows are a commonly used type of pipe fitting in piping installations, employed to connect pipes at bends.

  Other names: 90-degree bend, right-angle bend

  Application: Used to connect two pipes with the same or different nominal diameters, enabling the pipeline to change direction at a specified angle.

  Classification of bent pipes:

  1. By material, steels are classified into carbon steel, cast steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, copper, aluminum alloy, plastic, PVC, PPC, and others. 2. By manufacturing method, they can be categorized as push‑forming, pressing, forging, casting, and so on.

 II. Classified by manufacturing standards, they can be divided into national standards, electrical standards, water standards, American standards, German standards, Japanese standards, Russian standards, and others.

  3. According to its true radius of curvature, bends can be classified into long-radius bends and short-radius bends. A long-radius bend has a radius of curvature equal to 1.5 times the pipe’s outer diameter, i.e., R = 1.5D. A short-radius bend has a radius of curvature equal to the pipe’s outer diameter, i.e., R = 1.0D (where D is the pipe’s nominal diameter and R is the true radius of curvature).

  4. Classified by pressure rating, there are approximately seventeen grades, which correspond to the U.S. pipe standards: Sch5, Sch10s, Sch10, STD, Sch60, Sch80s, Sch100, Sch120, Sch140, Sch160, and XXS. Among these, STD and XXS are the most commonly used.
