Steel bracing is typically an inclined connecting member, most commonly configured in a V‑shaped or crossed pattern. Its cross‑section may be made of steel pipe, H‑section steel, angle steel, or other forms, and its primary function is to enhance the structural stability. Steel bracing is typically an inclined connecting member, most commonly configured in a V‑shaped or crossed arrangement. Its cross‑section may be made of steel pipe, H‑section steel, angle steel, or other forms, and its primary function is to enhance the structural stability. Below, Guangxi Nanning Canghai Steel Pipe Co., Ltd. will introduce the fabrication process for steel pipe bracing:

1. Steel pipe supports are typically configured as either struts or corner braces, as shown in the figure below. When using strut-type support, additional members may be added at the ends to increase the spacing and reduce the internal forces in the steel waler. For corner-brace configurations, if the spacing is large and the length is considerable, diagonal bracing can also be incorporated to form a truss‑type support system.

2. At the intersections of the vertical and horizontal steel tubes of the bracing system, the members can be staggered in a stacked configuration, or specially designed T‑shaped connectors can be added to join both the vertical and horizontal tubes. When the vertical and horizontal tubes are connected via these T‑shaped connectors, they lie in the same plane, forming a planar steel frame with high stiffness and excellent load‑bearing performance.

3. When using steel pipe supports, the wall’s waler may be either a reinforced concrete waler or a structural steel waler. The former offers greater stiffness and higher load-bearing capacity, allowing for wider support spacing. The gap between the retaining wall and the waler should be filled with fine aggregate concrete.

Precautions for installing steel supports:

1. Prior to construction, the drawings and all relevant calculations for the support system shall be thoroughly reviewed, and the excavation and support installation methods, pre‑loading forces, and requirements for protecting the surrounding environment shall be fully understood.

2. During construction, the sequence and timing of excavation and shoring must be strictly controlled. The positions of the supports—including the locations of columns and column piles—along with the depth of each excavation layer and the magnitude of any pre‑applied jacking forces (where required), as well as the tightness of contact between steel waler beams and the retaining structure or between struts and waler beams, shall all be thoroughly inspected.

3. After the installation of all supports is completed, the entire system shall remain in normal operation until all supports have been removed.

4. As a supporting system for permanent structures, it shall also comply with the requirements of the current national standard, Code for Acceptance of Construction Quality of Concrete Structures (GB 50204).
