On June 27, the Business Insider website reported that U.S. President Trump announced on Wednesday details of a plan to restrict Chinese investment in American technology companies, including an expansion of the powers of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS)—a move considerably more moderate than previously anticipated. The report noted that both the House and Senate are considering the “Foreign Investment Risk Review Modernization Act.”
The report comments that, by expanding CFIUS’s authority to curb Chinese investment, Trump appears to be slightly easing trade tensions between the United States and China.
