In practice, it is sufficient to inspect only the exposed outer surface and cross‑section. Since steel strip production follows a continuous process, if the exterior appears sound, there are generally no internal defects. Furthermore, during spiral pipe manufacturing, after the strip has been straightened and leveled by a leveling machine, its surface condition should be monitored continuously. If any issues are detected, production must be halted immediately, followed by repair welding.

Since the material cannot be visually confirmed at the time of purchase, it must be verified against the material certificate provided by the steel mill.
